Garden centers and plant nurseries sell annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, vegetables and houseplants, along with soil, mulch, fertilizer, pots and tools. Independent nurseries often grow part of their own stock and carry varieties that do well in the local climate, while big-box garden departments compete on price for common plants. Wholesale nurseries and growers sell to landscapers and sometimes to the public at volume prices; tree nurseries sell balled-and-burlapped and container trees and can deliver and plant large specimens. Specialty growers focus on bonsai, cactus and succulents, orchids or native plants, and hydroponics stores sell lights, nutrients and systems for growing indoors.

Ryan is extremely knowledgeable, personable, and patient explaining things to me since I am new to the world of bonsai. His cork bark dwarf jades are beautiful and each have such unique characteristics and textures, but he has several other variety of bonsais as well. Being new to the hobby, I already made several mistakes, but he talked me through how to address these in the future and offers bonsai boarding to help get my tree back to a good, healthy spot. I am looking forward to attending his workshops to learn more in the future and seeing him at the bonsai conventions in Chicago in May and August.

I just received my Frank Yee Cork Bark and two p. afra lilliputs today. Barrington Bonsai is a very special nursery and its owner Ryan is a very kind and knowledgeable man who will make sure you pick the right plants and they arrive safe and healthy. I will definitely buy from him again if I am in the market for any of his special dwarf jades. He has pre-bonsai and many bonsai in training and some with quite a bit of styling. All ages and price ranges. Truly a pleasure to make a purchase from this nursery.

You can tell that Ryan deeply cares about both his trees and his customers, as he took the time to ensure I felt confident in caring for it. His collection is top-tier, and the service is even better. I highly recommend working with him!
